Support Rallies for Sandra Bullock Amidst Controversy Surrounding ‘The Blind Side

In the wake of former NFL player Michael Oher’s recent revelation that the foundation of his adoption, which served as the inspiration for the 2009 film ‘The Blind Side,’ was shrouded in deception, a discussion emerged about whether Sandra Bullock, who portrayed Oher’s adoptive mother Leigh Anne Tuohy and won an Oscar for the role, should have her award revoked.

The situation also prompted some to criticize Bullock for not addressing the matter publicly.

Yet, a groundswell of support emerged for Bullock, recognizing that she bears no responsibility for the complexities of Oher’s situation.

Following TMZ’s coverage of Twitter users’ appeals to the Academy to take action against Bullock’s award, Laura Bassett, Editor-in-Chief of Jezebel, responded with a quote-tweet, questioning the logic behind the demands: “In what world is this her fault.”

Another commenter chimed in, underscoring the absurdity of some social media remarks, stating, “That argument doesn’t hold unless she was actively involved in acquiring the story rights.”

In a 14-page petition submitted to the Shelby County probate court in Tennessee on August 14, Oher detailed his claim that he had been deceived into believing that the Tuohy family legally adopted him.

According to the document, he discovered that he unwittingly signed a paper that granted Sean and Leigh Anne the role of co-conservators, granting them extensive power of attorney to make decisions on his behalf.

Responding to Oher’s allegations, Sean released a statement through the Daily Memphian, strongly refuting Oher’s assertions.

Sandra Bullock has proven time and again how good she is and she just lost her partner to ALS. She didn’t do anything other than play a role with information about the subjects that is now grossly different.

Leave her the fuck alone and pretend the Oscar is for “Gravity.”
