Manchester City Sends a Title Race Message with 4-1 Win Against Arsenal

Champions Manchester City put on an incredible effort to defeat league-leaders Arsenal 4-1 and take full control of the Premier League title race.
At the Etihad Stadium, City dealt the Gunners a possibly fatal blow to their chances of winning the title with goals from Kevin De Bruyne twice, John Stones once, and Erling Haaland twice.
Â
Rob Holding provided a late response for Arsenal, but treble-chasing City had long since established their supremacy, and Haaland’s 49th goal of the season in stoppage time sealed the victory.
Â
With two games remaining, Pep Guardiola’s team is now strong favorites to win their fifth championship in six years after the outcome moved them to within two points of the Londoners at the top of the league.
Â
The pace, strength, and tenacity of the visitors, who were at the height of their ruthlessness and sprinted to their 12th victory in their past 13 games in all competitions, were simply too much for Arsenal and their manager Mikel Arteta to handle.
The stakes were high, and it was obvious that Guardiola felt it by becoming even more passionate than normal and exploding at little transgressions by his players or decisions he disagreed with.
But if there was any strain on the team, it was not evident as they ripped into a lifeless Arsenal right away.
Now, it seems as though the Gunners’ season is falling apart. After having their once-healthy lead reduced by three straight draws, it had already been a traumatic month. When City realized their chance, they showed no compassion.
