E Jean Carroll trial jury orders Trump to pay $5m for sexual abuse

In the civil rape case against Donald Trump brought by E Jean Carroll, the jury found him responsible for her sexual abuse but not for rape. It was also discovered that the former president had slandered the magazine columnist.

In less than three hours, the nine jurors came to a unanimous decision, awarding her a total compensation of $5 million.

In a Manhattan courtroom on Monday, both sides made closing statements, with Ms. Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan stating: “In a real sense, Donald Trump is a witness against himself.”

While the former president’s remarks to “grab ’em by the pussy” in the infamous Access Hollywood tape are “rude” and “gross,” Mr. Trump’s attorney Joe Tacopina argued that “that doesn’t make Ms Carroll’s unbelievable story believable.”

The former president made a false assertion that he had not been given the chance to confront the accusations, as Judge Lewis Kaplan informed the jury.

According to Ms. Carroll, Mr. Trump sexually assaulted her in the 1990s in a changing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store.

Mr. Trump falsely claimed not to know Ms. Carroll in a heated  tirade on Truth Social following the judgment.

The world “finally knows the truth,” she claimed.
