Afropop princess Ayra Starr released her first song of the year, “Sability,” on Friday. The upcoming club hit, produced by Nigerian-British producer LONDON, shows the youthful singer-musical songwriter’s development as she plays along with various sounds. The duo created a catchy song that includes a zesty sample of “Coupé Bibamba” by legendary Congolese soukous musician Awilo Longomba.
The song’s usual sensual tone is echoed in “Sability,” but this time something is different. The relentless rhythmic pulse compels you to move your body, while Starr’s vocals challenge you not to. Starr’s star power and confidence are evident in her most recent work, which also popularized the term “Sabi Girl.” A “Sabi Girl,” according to Pulse Nigeria, is a lady who is knowledgeable about herself and her field. To us, that seems about right!
With her debut album producing success after hit, the ’19 & Dangerous’ crooner finished 2022 on a note as delicious as the vocals she arouses. Who could ever forget the legendary pairing of Starr and Grammy Award–winning American singer Kelly Rowland on the worldwide smash song “Bloody Samaritan” .
The singer is getting ready to rule the UK club scene with a string of performances in London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Leicester as she continues to enchant audiences around the globe.
