Andre Ayew has signed a contract with Nottingham Forest that runs through the end of the current campaign to reunite with former boss Steve Cooper.

The two played a key role in Swansea’s attempts to gain promotion, which failed after two straight losses in the Championship Play-Offs in 2020 and 2021.

Ayew, 33, most recently played for Al Sadd, where he scored 22 goals in 39 games over the course of 18 months. After Al Sadd released him from his contract, he was free to sign with another team after the transfer deadline.

Speaking on the Nottingham Forest website, the Ghanaian captain said: “It feels great to join Nottingham Forest.

“I am aware of the club’s size, importance to the community, and size of its fan following. Every time I’ve played against Forest and at The City Ground, even though I adore the venue, it’s been challenging.

“Steve Cooper is someone who is very familiar with me and is able to collaborate with me both on and off the field.

“He’s a special coach, a special person, and someone I truly look up to. We have a close relationship.

“I know what I can add to the squad, and I’m willing to give it everything to ensure that we can stay in the Premier League,” the player said.

Despite strong recruitment prior to their return to the Premier League, Forest sought to improve their offensive options in January following injuries to Jesse Lingard and Morgan Gibbs-White.
